Aryez, officially the Empire of Aryez (sometimes the People's Aralanic Empire of Aryez), is an online micronation founded by Aryeztur Mejorkhor. Aryez concentrates heavily on fantasy aspects, or fictionalization, and alternatly describes itself as a fantasy nation. This article deals with both it's reality and fictional situation.
Micronational Aryez's Status as a Nation, Secessions, Annexations, Mergers, and Soverignity
Aryez was an independent micronation from April-August 2005, although March 23 is its official foundation day. It then became an extremely automonous Dominion of Lavalon and remained so until October 2005. It then declared independence and remained so until the first day of 2006, although it briefly tried to start a confederacy of micronations known as the United Micronations of Micras. On the first day of 2006, Aryez was annexed as an autonomous fief of Babkha, first becomeing a Sultanate and then a Khanate. Aryez then somewhat disbanded itself and was refounded as a cultural are of Lavalon in May 2006.
Origin and Usage of the Name Aryez
The name Aryez comes from the same root as such words as Aryan (Sanskrit), Iran (Persian), Eire (Ireland in Irish), and so on. The Aryezi word "arye, aryes" means noble, from which the proper name Aryez is derived from (the Aryezi word "aryeyy" means pure). In addition, the Aryezi prefix "ar-" means high/noble/great, and in old Aryezi, "yez" meant a dwelling place (the Aryezi word for house, yedz is derived from this) so together, "ar" and "yez" formed Aryez. Either way, Aryez basically means "noble, great place, etc." Although the official name of Aryez is I starya en Aryez (The Empire of Aryez), it is almost always refered to as just Aryez. It should be noted that Aryez is pronounced as "ahr-yehz."
Foundation
Aryez was founded by His Imperial Majesty, the Emperor Aryeztur Mejorkhor. One can think of Aryez as two different things: as either a micronation, or as a fantasy country in a fantasy world, which Aryeztur Mejorkhor created along with Jonathan Beagley. In addition, they were aided by their friend Christos. A chief inspiration for the world of Arel came from J.R.R. Tolkien, author of the Holy Silmarillion. Both the micronational and fantasy Aryez are compatable in that Aryeztur basically brough the fantasy Aryez to live in the micronational world; thus no seperate articles are needed for culture, religioh, language, and geography. What is said of one version of Aryez in those articles applies to the other version. Only history will be treated seperatly becuase there is a micronational history as well as a fantasy history for Aryez.
Geography: Political
Aryez is a chain of islands in the central ocean. The northernmost island experiences tundra like conditions while the southernmost island is in the tropical zone. In addition, Aryez has expanded to include parts of neighboring continents. This entire region is called greater Aryez or Arzdar, even though there is only one country occupying it, known as Aryez. Aryez in this article will only refer to the original islands, which form Aryez proper. The islands themselves are divided into two regions, Fararyez (Northern Aryez), and Hyararyez (Southern Aryez), better known as Aryes. Aryes is made up of 7 divisions whereas Fararyez is made up of 13 divisions, making a grand total of 20 administrative units in Aryez proper.
Aryez proper is bordered by several nations, including Arzor.

Physical Geography
Aryez is made up of numerous islands. Most of these islands have hills and mountains in the interior which give way to costal plains. Aryez has few significant rivers. Much of the hills and costal plains are forested, as 60% of Aryezi land is "wild" and unsuitable to agriculture. Thus, despite being a moden, industrial society, Aryez has managed to preserve most of its ecosystems. Some of the northern islands contain taiga and tundra while some of the southern islands have jungles and deserts. Northern and central Aryez have four seasons (Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter), while Southern Aryez has two (Rainy and Dry).
Population: Numbers
See Aryezi People
Micronational Aryez has 5 active citizens, and about 20 more citizens in theory. Fantasy Aryez has a population of around 210,000,000 people, most of whom are concentrated in costal areas. Fararyez has about twice as many people as does Aryes.
The population can be broken down as such:
60% Urban (suburban is a subclass of Urban)
30% Rural
10% Nomadic
Ironically, 10% of the land use is urban, 30% is rural, and 60% is "wild" or preserved land
Ancestry of the Population
While the Aryezi culture and language is relativly homogenous, Aryezi genes are not. The original inhabitants of Aryez included several tribal peoples who were mosly replaced by invaders from the southern seas who called themselves Arye, or noble. These people were practical, technologically advanced, brown skinned, and of medium stature. They quickly assimilated the natives and settled all of Aryez. However, since they were initially not numerous, they soon interbred with other groups, thus creating a very mixed population, with all types of features ranging from blond hair in the north to black skin in the south. They civilization, initially very open, threw open the doors from numerous other nations, and many immigrants eventually arrived in Aryez and assimilated. However, after a while, Aryez's various cheifdoms and kingdoms were unified by a united Empire and a process of Aryezification began, in which all groups began to think of themselves as Aryezi only. After all the initial groups were mixed however, Aryezin began inbreeding only among themselves, although their gene pool was quite mixed, as the original Aryezin themselves only made up about 10% of the population. Eventually the distinction between "real" and "fake" Aryezin was dropped, and all people living in Aryez at the time of its unification eventually began to consider themselves as the true Aryezin, an ethnic group with a shared culture, rather than physical features. Sadly, later rulers of Aryez were not so tolerant to newly conquerored peoples outside Aryez proper, and these were not as much assimilated. A movement of pure Aryezin eventually left Aryez and settled in a remote island called Aryezizdar, an island that would give rise to fanatic movements, extremism, and Aralan. The genes of the various ethnic groups that made up Aryez initially have mixed to form "Aryezi genes." Only two tribal populations managed to keep from being assimilated, and there is now hardly any resemblence between them and their Aryezi neighbors, even though their Aryezi neighbors are in part derived from the same tribal stock. These tribal population barely form 1% of the Aryezi population; nevertheless, they enjoy autonomy.
In today's Aryez, about 95% of the population belongs to a group known as the Aryezi (Aryeza in Aryezi). All Aryezi are descended from the Aryezi of the classical period, when Aryez was unified. The modern Aryezi may actually speak different languages (all descended from classical Aryezi) or belong to subcultures. However, they all share the same basic Aryezi heritiage and thus identify themselves are Aryezi, although they may also display regional pride (Fararyezi, Aryesi, etc.)
A look at the faces of Aryez shows how ethnically mixed Aryezin really are:

Micronational History of Aryez
Fantastical History of Aryez
Aryez's historical period can be summed up like this:
- Era of many kingdoms in Aryez, until united. (Technological and Societial level roughly = ancient Middle East, Egypt)
- The First Imperial Period, under the powerful but not absolute rule of wise and strong Emperors. Aryez expands beyond the Aryezi islands. (Technological and Societial level roughly = early Ancient Rome, Han China)
- The Second Imperial Period, under the absolute rule of Emperors, not all of whom were good and just. Aryez expands to the fullest extent of its borders. (Technological and Societial level roughly = late Ancient Rome, Han China)
-The Aralanic Theocracy, leading to the establishment of Aralan, the reduction to the Emperor to puppet status, and the church dominating all affairs. (Technological and Societial level roughly = Dark Ages in Europe, Era of Warring States in China)
- The Republican Period. During this time period, the Emperor remained enthroned but merely a puppet, and the church still excercised much influence, but the nation was run by a senate composed mostly of nobles and landowners, but also with some commoners. The first constitution was written during this time period. (Technological and Societial level roughly = European Middle Ages, Islamic Caliphate, Mongol Empire)
- The Time of Dictators. During this time period, the Emperor, Senate, and church all became irrelevant, as political movements or induviduals seized power for some time, only to be disposed by some other group. Socialists, Communists, Fascists, and Meritocracists all held power during this time period. (Technological and Societial level roughly = European Middle Ages, Islamic Caliphate, Mongol Empire)
- Times of Wars and Civil Wars. Although Aryezi technically remained united during this time, it was essentially a collection of different Aryezi and foreigners ruling over various parts of the country. The Emperor and Senate were puppets, and the church was insignificant. (Technological and Societial level roughly = Early Modern Ages with guns and the like)
- Army Rule. Aryez's period of chaos was ended by the Army which reunified Aryez and secured its borders, crushing all internal dissension. Although brutal, the army saved Aryez. They army imposed a rule combinining republicanism, imperialism, theocracy, meritocracy, and socialism, all of which were balanced by the force of the military. (Technological and Societial level roughly = Industrial and Colonial Age, many new weapons, advances)
-Third Imperial Period. The army rule gradually evolved into a third Imperium. Although there was a constitution and legislature which could make some domestic laws, most power was concentrated in unelected committes and a strong, powerful, but not absolute Emperor, whilst the army remained the unshakable foundation of Aryezi stability. (Technological and Societial level roughly = Post industrial and information age, leading into futuristic possiblities)
The Arnore Family of languages which led to the Aryezi language started on the island of Ricca (Iratol) probably around the year 200 FA. It initially split into two subfamilies, the Alstan and the Ayyadin. The Alstan people stayed on the small isolated island that they originated on, and their language became known as Ercha, which is considered the most archaic form of Arnore. The Ayyadin left Ricca and voyaged westwards colonizing the islands they found by 300, and reaching and colonizing eastern North Dora by 400. The Ayyadin on the islands formed the Tol group and the ones in eastern North Dora formed the Dor group. The Tol group gave rise to the single language/culture of Aryezi (Ancient Aryezi). They lived a tribal existence from about 300-500, when two slightly more advanced tribes, the Kwanda and Aula being driven from their homes in Endor and Mirka settled and mixed in among the Aryezi. Although they founded many chiefdoms, these people were eventually assimilated by the more numerous Aryezin. However, by 550, several chiefdoms emerged among the Aryezin living on the northern islands, while the southern islands remained tribal until about 750, when influenced by their northern neighbors, they founded many chiefdoms. The most important of these chiefdoms was Akhileshizdar, which included the southern 3⁄4 of an island of that name. The towns of Akhilesh and Akhileshadel were important to it. Starting with Chief Yelumbothlu I in 567, chiefs ruled the island until 777, when Chief Alyi I upgraded himself to King Alyi I and conquered the whole of Akhileshizdar. During that period, town life, agriculture, religion (Aryezi paganism), war and metal technology, and literature grew. Tribal life had almost ended by the time Alyi took the throne. In the year 800, the House Arturn (under King Hri I), the leading family of the leading clan (Armanar) took control of the Royal throne, and fortified the prestige and position of the King., building roads, and enabling trade. Meanwhile, the other Aryezi chiefdoms had also become kingdoms. Consolidation led to the formation of 21 Aryezi kingdoms which traded and had contact with each other. Contact with the mainland and non Aryezi groups was rare. Most ships from Aryez couldn’t make the long journey. When King Aralka I of Akhileshizdar received the crown in 859, he embarked upon a slow conquest of the rest of the kingdoms. By the time King Alzir I died in 969, there were only 3 kingdoms left. King Alzir’s son, Akhilesh I completed the conquest of all the Aryezi kingdoms. He renamed his extended kingdom Aryez, and took the title Emperor of Aryez. He fostered a common culture, standardized the language and script, established numerous new towns and cities, and greatly increased the prestige of the Emperor. He founded colonies on the eastern coast of Endor, where there was trade with the Rosga tibes and chiefdoms the Aryezin encountered. The High King of the Rosga paid tribute to Akhilesh. He conquered Rocca, and the first Aryezi ships reached eastern North Dora, where the members of the Dor group had settled before. These people still lived in chiefdoms. So awed were they by the Aryezin, that they quickly adopted many Aryezi customs and formed kingdoms of their own. Traz and Zagaland were founded. Akhilesh made his brother, Aakaash king of the tribes to the east of Zagaland. Aakaash’s kingdom was known after as Aakaashizdar. Aakaashizdar conquered the Dor tribes to it’s east and civilized them…it extended far east across the great plain. All of the people who spoke Arnore languages lived under kings now. In Aryez, a golden Age of culture, art, and science began. Later, the date of the second Age was set at 0, the year Akhilesh I became Emperor. Nobility related to the Emperor also ruled much of Aryez under him. Altogether, he ruled 100 years, from 0-100. He is credited as being the founder and greatest leader of Aryez, for he presided over its birth.
Government and Politics
The Aryezi government currently is made up of five branches. The Aryezi government has changed markedly in many way throughout history. Although it has always been technically a monarchy, the monarch has participated in various degrees in the government, and for all practical purposes, Aryez has also been a theocracy, democracy, communist state, meritocracy, facist state, and dictatorship for some period of time. However, in almost all eras, Aryez has been governed by a constitution (Constitution of Aryez).
The Head of the State of Aryez is the Emperor. Ever seen the various Aryezi kingdoms were united by Akhilesh I (Aryeztur Mejorkhor), a man has taken the title of the Emperor. By Aryezi law, there must always been an Emperor ruling over Aryez. In the early days, sucession was to the eldest son/male relative of the Emperor. Aryezi Emperors developed the unique tradition of abdicating the throne before their deaths, so as to live out their last years in peace. However, the Emperor Akhilesh X changed the law regarding sucession because he had no sons and his nephew was killed in battle: after him, the eldest child/nephew/niece of the Emperor suceeded the throne regardless of gender. The law then further changed during the reign of Kwaresh I; the throne passed to the next eldest member of the family, regardless of gender. By this time, the royal family have several branches and thousands of members. The final change in the law came during the reign of Tçar III, when it was decided that after an Emperor abdicated, the royal family would (possibly at the recogmendation of the emperor himself) choose his sucessor. The only requirement was that the Emperor had to be desended from Akhilesh I. This worked out pretty well, because the royal family usually choose somebody good to rule over Aryez. Quite normally, an Emperor trained one of his children in the art of being an Emperor, and thus it was quite common for a son/daugther to suceed a father/mother.
The 10 Akhilesh emperors (Akhilesh I- X) ruled during what is called the golden age of Aryez. Their combined reigns lasted over 600 years. During this time, the Emperor ruled the nation, but his power was not absolute as he had to differ to the nobles and the "people's councils." Towards the end of this period, a Parliament was established consisting of three houses: the nobles, clergy, and common people. During the period following the death of Akhilesh X, the Middle Ages began. Emperor Eakhor, the grandson of Akhilesh X, ruled directly or through his Premier. Thus, began a period of absolute monarchy which lasted for almost 1400 years. Parliament was dissolved during his reign, not to reopen for a thousand years.

Anthem of Aryez
National Poem
Over the blue tranquil waters Through the fog Below the white clear skies, Over the green lands and golden plains, With low hills and majestic mountains, The stars shine brilliantly above. The great forests and wide deserts, is the place of wisdom, bravery, and kindness, Great and glorious, blessed eternally for the free and proud, the land of Aryez.
Anthem (The anthem comes from verses 3-40 of the last book of the Marfat)
Lay down Your sweet and weary head Night is falling You have come to journey's end Sleep now And dream of the ones who came before They are calling From across the distant shore Why do you weep? What are these tears upon your face? Soon you will see All of your fears will pass away Safe in my arms You're only sleeping What can you see On the horizon? Why do the white gulls call? Across the sea A pale moon rises The ships have come to carry you home And all will turn To silver glass A light on the water All souls pass Hope fades Into the world of night Through shadows falling Out of memory and time Do not say: «We have come now to the end» White shores are calling You and I will meet again And you will be here in my arms Just sleeping And all will turn To silver glass A light on the water Grey ships pass Into the Horizon
(God is singing in the first person to the people of Aryez, who are represented in second person plural).
