Information

The Commandate of Samana Cay is a commandate near Acklins Island in the Bahamas. The country was declared independent on July 20, 2008 by the Samanian Seperation Committee.

Geography

The nation is located at 23° 5'25.98"N 73°44'22.08"W. The commandate is located on an island to the east of the Bahamas and Acklins Island. The island is fairly flat but contains small hills by the capital city of Samana Cay. There are small lakes all over the island. There are two minor islands, one to the south of South Beach D.P. and one to the east of the airport in the vicinity of Samana Cay. These islands are not part of the country, but may be one day.

History

Christopher Columbus first named the island Guanahani in 1492, when he discovered the New World. The island has over the years since colonization, been used as a stop in the Triangle Trade network. The island was part of the Bahamas when they gained independence from Great Britain in 1973. Through its history as a Bahaman island, Samana Cay was never inhabited, but people on Acklins Island visited Samana Cay to collect cascarilla bark. After seeing the potential of the island as an independent nation, the Samanian Separation Committee voted to declare independence on July 20, 2008.

People

Samana Cay has no residents yet, but the intended population, if development plans are followed, would be near 20,000. They do not discriminate by race, sex, or background and holds and open immigration policy.

Districts

Capital

The Capital District houses the national government as well as the seat of district government. Both of these are located in the district's only city, Samana Cay. The district is the seventh largest in the country.

Farmer's

All of the nation's agriculture comes from the Farmer's District, the fourth largest in the country. The district is the center for agricultural trade. The seat is in Marketown. The district contains the city of Marketown, Routes 3 and 4, and district routes F1-F4, F5A, F5B, and F6.

Western

The third largest district, Western District, is led by the seat at Harborfields. This district is the most urbanized in the nation. It is also the center for shipping and international and domestic, non-agricultural trade. The cites of West Point, Harborfields, Splitway, and Cancer, West Lake, Western National Park, and Harborfields Governmental Area are all located within the Western District, as well as Routes 1 and 4 and district route W1.

The Samana Cay developers have 15 cities planned. These would be Oceanside, Columbus, South Beach, Center Island, North Bay, Sargasso, Tropic, North Shore, Islandia, Samana Cay, Marketown, Cancer, Splitway, Harborfields, and West Point. The largest would be Oceanside. The smallest would be West Point.
