The idea behind an Imperial Republic is an empire with a semi-Republican form of government in the way of the Landsraad. The logic behind this idea is that the Nobles of the Landsraad represent the people in their fiefdom, but are not elected by them. The only known existing micronation that is an Imperial Republic is the nation of Imperial Republic of Shireroth. Natopia had, for a time, been an Imperial Republic as well.

With the instatement of the New Feudalism, the process of the Imperial Republic has changed slightly: now, the people choose by way of Feudal Contract who is to speak for them in the Landsraad.

In Shireroth, feudal contracts have fallen by the wayside since the Revival of October 2007 under Kaiser Mors V.
