Burkland has seven languages that have official, recognized minority, or ceremonial language status. These languages are English, Burklandi, Zealandian, Domanglian, Latin, Esperanto, German and Ter Sami.

Languages in the Burklandi government

The Burklandi government uses English in most documents, conversions, and other documents. However, the Latin language is planned to be used. Still, no or few Burklandi citizens speaks Latin. If and how much Burklandis speak Latin is unknown.

Languages in other contexts

Burkland's languages are grouped into 3 statuses, they are

  • Official language (Esperanto, Latin, Burklandi and English)
  • Recognized minority language (Zealandian, Domanglian and German)
  • and ceremonial language (Ter Sami).

These languages make up the languages of Burkland, as according to the Burklandi government.

Burklandi

Burklandi is the official conlang of the state, created almost single-handly by Burklandi president Matthew Burklandssen. This language hasn't been used much in spoken conversions as of this point.

English

English is the native language of most, if not all, Burklandi citizens. Thus making it the most spoken language by the Burklandi people and government. This is reinforced as the most spoken natural language in the micronational community is English.

Slin-Englysh

Slin-Englysh is an official dialect of English in Burkland. All expect for Joke Slin-Englysh, all sub-dialects are recognized as correct.

German

German is not wide-spoken in Burkland. However, it is easily understandable by Burklandis as it is similar enough to English to be understood. In another event, the word Burkland is based on the German word "Bravhard," a German name meaning brave.

Zealandian

Zealandian is spoken by some Burklandis, most notably King Håkon Markssen. Another connection to the language is Burkland being a member-state of the Zealandian Commonwealth.

Domanglian

Domanglian is a dialect of English, it can be spoken by some Burklandi citizens but around one or two citizens can speak it fluently. This is mainly because it is a dialect of English. However, in many respects it is unlike other English dialects and plans on evolving to its own language.

Ter Sami

The Burklandi government has founded the Burklandi Institute for the Revival of Ter Sami, which tries to revive as much knoweldge as they can obtain. It has gone inactive as it cannot find other sources of information to gain knowledge of the language. When it comes back in activity, it plans to spread usage of it in micronationalism.
