The Most Glorious People’s Republic of A1 was founded on January 1 2008, after claiming a small territory in Melbourne, Australia. It seceded from Australia and, within a few months, had acquired much new territory. It has since become a prosperous and influential nation, with its main concern being that of recognition by other governments.
It is regarded as a Sixth World micronation, after recognition from the Micronational Professional Registry and the United Micronations Multi-Oceanic Archipelago.

History
(See main article – History of A1)
A1, being on the continent of Australia, was previously inhabited by the indigenous population up until the late 1800s.
After the development of the area in the mid 1900s, A1 was created by the urban sprawl of Melbourne.
The main turning point in the history of A1 was the ‘Great Pprit Revolution’, where (former) Chairman Pprit headed a revolution, and declared A1’s independence on January 1 2008, with the government formed, constitution & bill of rights written & authorised and territories secured.
Since then, A1 has emerged as a prominent micronation in Southern Australia, becoming more and more active in other micronational affairs, under the direction of Chairman Sir. Philip Fish, Deputy Chairman Lord Tomas Caulfield and the government.

Government and Politics
(See main article – Politics of A1)
A1 is a democratic parliamentary communist dictatorship. Sir. Philip Fish, being Chairman of A1 is the Head of Government and Head of State.
General Elections are held around every 3-4 years, with the leader of the political party with 50% or more of the vote gaining the position of Chairman. Voting is not compulsory, on account of difficulties accessing citizens. Elections are overseen by the independentA1 Electoral Commission.
There is also a civil service within the A1 government, which are apolitical appointments (permanent secretary or permanent under-secretary) to certain important ministries or offices, and various other government positions.
The executive government
The government of A1 is decided by the Chairman, and is tasked with the role of running A1. There are four main parts to the government:
- Chairman & Deputy Chairman
- Central Committee
- Upper Ministry
- Lower Ministry
The Central Committee, formerly known as 'Cabinet', holds power as being almost directly below the Chairman and hence, exercises significant influence over decisions made by the Chairman and Deputy Chairman. The Upper and Lower Ministries contain the rest of the ministers, holding less significant or smaller portfolios than the Cabinet.
All members of the A1 government are answerable to the Chairman and the independent court system of A1.
Judicial
(Main article: Justice system in A1)
The judicial branch in A1 is seperated from the legislative and excecutive branches, to ensure what is commonly referred to as a 'seperation of powers'. This ensures that A1's justice system is fair and independent.
The High Court of A1 is the highest court in A1, and deals mainly with matters concerning the constitution and high treason. What used to be referred to as the 'Supreme Court' (due to be renamed), deals with most other matters.
The current head of the High Court is Justice Maximus Ze Blah.
Foreign Relations
(Main article: Foreign Relations of A1)
A1 maintains its claims sovereignty over its claimed territories, despite a lack of recognition from other micronations.
As detailed in A1’s first and, to date, only foreign policy White Paper, A1’s main foreign policy objectives are to obtain recognition by as many entities as possible, so as to elevate its influence and add weight to its claims of sovereignty.
A1 established its first diplomatic relations with Bobalania in July 2009, joined the United Micronations in early August 2009 and Grand Unified Micronational soon afterwards, but left the GUM in November 2009 due to numerous complaints by A1 about various aspects of the GUM.
The Micronational Assistance Office and the Organisation of Active Micronations were launched in October 2009, in response to the recommendations made by the July 2009 White Paper. These creations has been met with great approval from inside the A1 Government and (mostly) from the Micronational Community.
Military
(Main article: A1 Defence Forces)
A1 maintains a very small non-standing military force, in the form of the A1 People’s Army and the A1 Home Guard, which are essentially the reserve forces of he A1PA. Total numbers in the armed forces are thought to number less than 20, although this number could be higher.
The A1DF (A1 Defence Forces) are headed by the Supreme Headquarters of the Armed Forces (SHAF), which is headed by the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, constitutionally the Chairman. However, in reality, the commander of the A1DF is the General Officer Commanding A1 Defence Forces (G.O.C.A1.D.F.).
The A1DF are only mobilised in times of crisis, such as an invasion of A1.
Geography and climate
A1 is approximately 3 square kilometres, comprising of two protectorates.
The climate of A1 can vary quite considerably, more extreme than other Melbourne temperatures. In summer, temperatures can reach 46°C and in winter, temperatures can get down to as low at 4°C during the night, although unconfirmed reports have the minimum temperature as even lower.
Natural hazards of A1 include:
- High winds
- Extreme temperatures
- Severe electrical storms
The now infamous Great Window Opening Tornado Disaster of 2008 was particularly devastating, with over 15 sheets of paper blown across New Central and one citizen receiving a laceration on their arm, amongst the many other terrible effects of the disaster. A public holiday is now held on the day to remember this disaster.
The A1 Weather Bureau provides weather information for A1, including weather warnings and regular forecasts, through the A1 News Service.
Economy
A1, considering its size, has a relatively large GDP ($US200,000), but a large deficit in its Current Account Balance (CAD), mainly due to a disproportion between exports and imports.
A1 imports almost all of its needs, with only a small amount of gas, heating and electricity being exported to A2 and gas bottles to Australia forming A1’s entire exports.
The unemployment rate is also extremely high, 55%, but this is due to the country’s young population – 94% of the population is 21 years old or younger.
The A1 government does not release confidential Treasury information, or information on A1's finances and hence, all figures are estimates.
Education
All education of A1 citizens is handled by the Victorian Government’s Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, and no A1 educational institutions exist as of yet, although an A1 University is due to open in early 2010.
Culture
See main article: Culture of A1
The culture of A1 is almost entirely similar to that of Australia’s, but with some minor differences.
The official language of A1 is Australian English, and is strictly enforced. Any citizen caught using the U.S form of English is severely dealt with, with the exception of some citizens of Lichthalzen. This was formalised with the establishment of the A1 Spelling and Grammar Police in October 2009.
Customs
It is considered polite to shut doors behind you, especially on cold mornings.
It is also considered rude to make fun of the Chairman, interrupt a speech by the Chairman and to make a mockery of A1, as the majority of A1 citizens have a famous nationalism, and are proud of their country.
It is customary to greet fellow A1 citizens in formal or semi-formal ceremonies with the greeting: “Heil Pprit!”. This greeting should also be accompanied with the A1 salute, which is essentially the same as the Australian military salute.
Media
Owing to the size of A1, there is only one A1-specific news provider, theA1 News Service, or A1NS, which is funded and owned by the A1 government. It also provides news from all the protectorates.
In September 2009, the A1 Broadcasting Commission was begun. It, similar to the A1 News Service, is funded by the government, but is run by a board of directors, and maintains a YouTube Channel and Livestream Channel.
The Arts
See main article: The Arts in A1
A1 has much musical and artistic talent, although A1, being such a small country, does not as of yet have a performing arts centre of artistic academy. This is currently being worked on by the Minister of Culture.
There is also an almost nationwide hatred of the composer, Dmitri Shostakovich.
