The Principality of Chitose was formed on November 11th, 2013 within the Central Florida region of the southern United States, and declared independence from the United States of America. It was established by Austin Reinhart who reigns as the Prince of Chitose, and Hunter Tulp, who leads the armed forces. The Principality of Chitose is a constitutional principality in which the ruling Prince or Princess is limited in their powers by the Chitosean Constitution. Currently the nation covers 16 square miles and is home to 41 registered citizens and is a member of the De Soto Confederation.

On November 11, 2012, the micronation called the Principality of Midatlantia was formed, however it failed to meet success and its members were not actively involved in the country, leading to its defunct status. On the founding anniversary, the remaining citizens reformed the country as the Principality of Chitose. In the past year, the people of Chitose have forged a stronger national identity, and the country has become more organized.  On December 14, 2013, construction began on the Firedrake Trail in the state of Renland, which connects the capital of Dunhill in the southern half of Renland to Lake Fiona.

The colony of Folusia became part of Chitose on January 6th, 2014 following the peaceful annexation of the Republic of Almari, which was preparing to cede its territorial claims back to the United States and Mali. On May 5th, 2014, Chitose finally adopted a formal Constitution with approval from the Forum and was adopted after several revisions to divisive amendments, including the issue of taxation and the balance of power between the Prince and the Forum. On May 28th, Chitose annexed two new states and divided the state of Renland to form a new state named Ceravia, adding an additional .2 square miles to Chitose's existing land claims.

Euromaidan and Ukrainian Crisis

In the spring of 2014, Independent Party member Nicdaniel Landries was in contact with several members of the Euromaidan protests in Ukraine and several members of Pro-EU militias currently preparing in case of further hostilities from the Russian Federation in the ongoing Ukrainian Crisis. Landries acted as an online courier for sharing information coming out of Kiev and the Ukrainian border to family members of the individuals that are currently residing in the United States and Chitose. However the Principality of Chitose itself has not officially been involved in the Euromaidan protests and the following crisis, nor has it made a decision to recognize or not recognize Crimea as and independent state or Russia's annexation of the state.

De Soto Confederation

Chitose joined the De Soto Confederation on May 31st, 2014, entering a closer relationship with Huro-Atlantica and the Cockatiel Empire, thus officially becoming the third member state of the confederation. The Principality is currently reviewing current policies and has adopted the confederate currency, the Soto, as a secondary currency alongside the Lyric.

Floods of Late 2014

In late September of 2014, Chitose saw unseasonably heavy rainfall totals with over 10 inches of rain falling in a one week period. As a result, the St Johns River overflowed its banks leading to widespread flooding in Arcadia. Naval Fort Econ, located on the banks of the St Johns, was protected from the flooding by sandbags put in place under the orders of the joint branch commander, SCDR. Hunter Tulp. Lake Fiona's water levels rose, leaving the surrounding area inacessible for until late November.

On December 14th, heavy squalls dropped rain during the evening and late night hours causing flooding along the St Johns River in northern Chitose and in the area surrounding Lake Fiona. A combination of rising waters and high wind gusts left the Chitosean Navy patrol boat Razgriz aground on the southern shore of Lake Fiona. Plans to salvage the boat have yet to be finalized and there is debate as whether to abandon it and strike it from the defense equipment register.

Government & Politics

Chitose has been ruled since its inception by Prince Austin, who is bounded to powers defined in the Chitosean Constitution and serves the executive role in the government. The legislative function is performed by the Forum, a body that allows all citizens to petition for laws and actions by the Chitosean head of government. Its name is derived from the Agora of ancient Athens, a structure that was also known as the Forum and served as the center of government in Classical Athens.

The Forum currently is host to three parties, the Conservative Party, which is fiscally and socially conservative, the Independent Party, which is fiscally conservative and socially moderate, and the National Chitosean Socialist Party (NCSP), which promotes the adoption of socialist principles. Currently the Conservative Party is the majority party in the Forum, consisting of 81% of Chitose's registered citizenry. Both the Prince and or Princess and the Forum perform the judicial function, with the Prince acting as the judge in cases and the Forum acting as the jury. During a case the defendant is temporarily barred from participation in the Forum as it is in a juridical session.

Friendly or Recognized Nations

The symbol of the Armed Forces adopted in March of 2014, called the Zwillingkreuz (Twin Cross).

As of April 2014, the Chitosean military is divided into two branches, the Chitosean Army that patrols and defends the land within Chitose's borders and the Chitosean Navy that operates a patrol boat on Lake Fiona, as well as a floating watch platform on the Econolatchee River. Both forces are commanded by the joint branch commander, Supreme Commander Hunter Tulp. Military service is voluntary during peacetime, however a selective draft is instituted during military conflicts. The branches of the military also function as a law enforcement organization, fulfilling security and police functions for the nation. Chitosean's military branches are fencible in their design, focusing on the defense of the nation against exterior and interior threats.

The Army officially uses real tree and woodland camouflage for operations in wooded areas and urban digital camouflage for urban and suburban operations. Actual firearms are utilized for defense against combatants willing to use deadly force, however they are not primarily used. Chitose's Navy operates a lightweight boat for use in brown-water operations and patrols, which is designated the CS Razgriz and is Chitose's first and only naval vessel.

The shared motto of the two branches is, "Frieden durch überlegene Feuerkraft." or "Peace through superior firepower."

Geography & Climate

Chitose's terrain is primarily flat, forested areas with sandy soil and forested wetlands. At its southwestern corner are Lake Soryu and Lake Fiona, both of which are shallow brownwater lakes with average depths of 3 to 6 feet. The climate zone is subtropical, with hot humid summers and mild winters. The country has two seasons, the wet season during the spring and summer months, and the dry season during the autumn and winter months. Chitose's average temperatures range from 49 °F at its lowest to 93 °F at its highest. During the summer months, sea breezes from the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean collide, forming thunderstorms and showers during the afternoon and evening hours, relieving the area of day time heat and bringing beneficial rain to the woods and forests within Chitose. Through the summer and autumn, Chitose is at risk for tropical storms and hurricanes that form in the warm waters of the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico. During the winter months, cold fronts bring in cold, dry air from the north, as well as occasional tornadic squall lines.

Surrounded by northern Kentucky, the State of Faysylph has a climate that can best be described as a humid subtropical climate with temperatures that usually range from daytime summer highs of 87 °F to the winter low of 23 °F.

A proposed geographical term to describe Chitose and similar nations is land archipelago, which is when a landlocked nation is seperated into multiple parts by another nation. Several of Chitose's states are seperated from it's main central claims, such as the states of Faysylph, Geneva, Arcadia, and Spiritus Island. The United States could be seen as a quasi-land archipelago due to Alaska being seperated from the Continental US by Canada.

Chitose has an economy based on agriculture and telecommunications. Chitose's main produce are oranges of several varieties, such as blood, valencia, navel, and clementine oranges, which are sold for raw and processed consumption. Herbs such as basil and cilantro as also grown in small quantities. The country is a hub for web designing, networking, and digital design, and job opportunities in computer sciences and design are rapidly growing.

The official currencies in Chitose are the lyric and its subunit, the lambda, with 100 lambda = 1 lyric. The lyric (Ł) and its subunit are pegged to the value of the US dollar as of 2015 while the formal establishment of a metal reserve is being debated by the citizenry. There is a concern that separating the lyric from the US dollar may leave the currency vulnerable to inflation which will hinder its usage in trade. The lyric is printed in the following denominations: 1, 3, 5, and 10, along with a commemorative 13 lyric. The 13 lyric that honors the Black Sun stories by Hunter Tulp is legal tender but is not meant to circulate. The lambda is a fractional currency with no plans to mint coins in the near future due to resource limitations. Lambda notes are printed in the following denominations: 1, 5, 15, 25, and 50. The latter 4 are on the same printing sheet and feature a connected design, allowing the individual notes to form a larger image. The resulting image and uncut sheets are named puzzle notes for this reason.

Chitose is host to the Chitosean Meteorological Service, an organization that provides weather forecasts in Chitose and takes measurements such as precipitation levels, humidity, wind speed, and temperature for the area with a small weather station. The CMS founded a hazard flag system and flies various flags to denote that a certain weather event is currently happening or may occur within the next 24 hours.

Chitose's culture is influenced largely by its German and Southern ethnic and geopgraphical majorities. Two languages spoken are English and German, and a conlang language called Silvyanic was recently introduced but currently is only spoken by one citizen. 92% of Chitose's registered citizens identify as Christian, with the remaining 8% identifying as being agnostic, atheist, or Jewish. Protestant, Roman Catholic, and Spiritual Christianity are the three main sects of Christianity in Chitose. Popular cuisine in Chitose are foods such as krautfleckerln, bratwurst, spätzle, brisket, cornbread, and cucumber salad. Major forms of entertainments

include animes, mangas, video games, movies, music, and novels. The most popular media genre is science fiction and the most popular genres of music are rock, metal, and country. Chitoseans participate in a handful of sports, including airsoft, basketball, cycling, and longboarding. Chitose is home to a national airsoft team called Cypher, which was founded on December 20, 2013, which hosts events within the Firedrake Forest and at the Combat City airsoft field. Because of Chitose's growing telecommunications and graphic design sectors, digital arts such as pixel art, digital illustrations, vector art, and digital painting are the most common forms of art.
