The United Kingdom of New Wessex (sometimes abbreviated as the UKNW) is an enclave and exclave nation located on the island of Great Britain, surrounded by the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on all borders. New Wessex is an absolute monarchy ruled over by Declan I, II & V, and is comprised of two non-contiguous pieces of land; Wilcsland (to the east of the British city of Salisbury), and Orly (to the south-west of the British capital city of London), with a colony in North America known as New Wiltshire. Both Wilcsland and Orly were former sovereign states before entering into political union on 14 January 2012.
New Wessex is a "Fifth World" micronation with a score of 12 under the Boodlesmythe-Tallini System, and scores roughly 3.4 on the Categoric-Gradial/Linden's (Revised) System. New Wessex is an example of a nation at Political Stage II and between Economic Stage II and III on the Eight Stage Transition.
The two constituent countries of New Wessex have two very different histories. The Kingdom of Wilcsland can trace itself back to the Chiefdom of the Plains, founded in 1995. This split up into several small tribes which were conquered by the Chiefdom of the Sun under Chief Nectombetec II in 1999 and united into the Kingdom of South Bank on 1 May 2002, creating what is now known as the Wessaxon Monarchy - Nectombetec II was crowned His Majesty King Declan I of South Bank. South Bank transitioned into the Kingdom of Atlantis in 2003, which in turn transitioned into the Kingdom of the Taklamacan in 2005, both times due to the population of the nation being forced to migrate. The nation gained the Kingdom of Saqqara and the Kingdom of Thebes as vassal states while Atlantis, and the Kingdom of Corran as one while the Taklamacan. A new nation, the Kingdom of Moylurg, began to rise to prominence after being founded in June 2009 - Saqqara and Thebes were made subkingdoms of the Taklamacan, while the Taklamacan itself along with Corran were made Moylurgian Commonwealth Realms. These two nations then joined in political union with Moylurg as the Empire of Moylurg on 7 March 2010, which was renamed back to a Kingdom the following month. The Kingdom of Moylurg, still with Saqqara and Thebes as nominally semi-autonomous subkingdoms, transitioned into the Kingdom of Wilcsland on 10 November 2010.
Orly was initially founded as a Caesarship, on 4 July 2010. Geographically close to the Empire of Austenasia, its population was comprised mostly of friends of the then Emperor Esmond III who had been inspired by supporting him during the Austenasian Civil War. The Caesarship split into two independent kingdoms later that month: Copan and the Grove. The Grove was ruled by a native leader, King Calum I, whereas Crown Prince Jonathan of Austenasia arranged for Copan to have Declan I made its King, with him governing it as the King's viceroy. Under the terms of the edict that had separated the Caesarship, Declan I became head of state of the Grove when its throne became vacant on 8 December 2010, and immediately reunified the two kingdoms back into an Orlian state, known as the Tsardom of Orly. The Tsardom survived as a stable, independent state, governed by the Viceroy and various local vassal monarchs, until it was entered into political union by Declan I with the Kingdom of Wilcsland on 14 January 2012, creating the United Kingdom of New Wessex. Its epithet of Tsardom was dropped, Declan I being restyled King of Orly, and its local vassal monarchies were abolished while the viceroyalty was retained.
New Wessex is a monarchy comprised of four thrones: New Wessex, Wilcsland, Orly, and Saqqara. While the thrones of Wilcsland and Orly are in theory absolute monarchies in their own right, under the jursidiction of the King of New Wessex, the fact that all three thrones are held by King Declan I means that for all intents and purposes the entire country is ruled directly by the King of New Wessex, with the thrones of Wilcsland and of Orly being mainly ceremonial. Orly is governed by a Viceroy, currently Jonathan Nobilissimus Caesar, who runs the nation on a day-to-day basis with frequent online consultation with the King - however, despite its rulers nominally holding absolute power, their duties are in practice limited to the advancing of culture and management of foreign relations, Orly domestically funtioning as somewhat of a commune; nevertheless, the King and Viceroy are greatly respected by the Orlian people, with their titles acknowledged and authority recognised. The Kingdom of Saqqara is a subkingdom of Wilcsland - while officially an autonomous part of Wilcsland ruled by a vassal monarch, King Ptolemy IV, its population is in practice ruled directly by the King of New Wessex.
The King of New Wessex holds sole and absolute executive, legislative, and judicial power and authority. He can appoint co-rulers and grant titles at will. The power and authority of all other thrones and offices within New Wessex ultimately derive from his throne.
The royal family of Wilcsland is the House of Mac Donnchadha-Houghton, a large family rumoured to be descended from High Kings of Ireland and Holy Roman Emperors. None of the Wessaxon people have ever expressed a desire to remove the monarchy, and have never expressed a desire to limit the powers of the reigning monarch.

The foreign policy of New Wessex focuses mainly on the defence and expansion of the influence of the Wessaxon Monarchy. The nation has a military alliance with the Empire of Austenasia, and informal friendly relations with numerous micronations in the MicroWiki Community, which began to be established in the Moylurgian Golden Period. Although New Wessex holds mostly informal relations with nations it has contacted, the following is a list of all nations with which it has established formal diplomatic relations:
- Zonian Confederacy - 10 February 2010 (defunct due to the Zonian Confederacy ceding sovereignty to Sirocco)
- Kingdom of Angador - 11 February 2010 (defunct after Angador's dissolution)
- Federal Republic of St.Charlie - 24 February 2010 (first written treaty)
- Empire of Austenasia - 7 June 2010 (upgraded to a military alliance on 7 August 2010)
- 25px Kingdom of the Grove - 7 August 2010 (defunct due to the Grove becoming part of Orly, and of New Wessex itself)
- 25px Kingdom of Copan - 7 August 2010 (defunct due to Copan becoming part of Orly, and of New Wessex itself)
- Midget Nation-in-Exile - 7 August 2010 (defunct due to the Midget Nation becoming part of Austenasia)
The culture of New Wessex can be clearly divided into Wilcslandian and Orlian culture. These are mostly limited to their respective constituent countries, but Orly has been influenced by Wilcslandian culture to a certain degree, especially in Copan.
Wilcslandian culture is a direct continuation of the Moylurgian culture which existed between June 2009 and November 2010. A tolerant and artistic culture, it is based heavily on that of Ancient and (after the transition to Wilcsland) Ptolemaic Egypt, as well as its predeccessor state of the Kingdom of the Taklamacan. National symbols of Wilcsland include the lion and the flail. Wilcsland is also home to such monuments as the Wilcslandian Pyramids.
Orlian culture is based on various British youth subcultures. As such, it differs drastically from Wilcslandian culture and is in itself very diverse. Many genres of music are popular amongst Orlians, and the Orlian culture as a whole is generally based around social interaction.
